Как известно, строку ввода команд в Linux можно изменять по собственному вкусу. Для этого всего лишь надо задать переменную PS1 в .bashrc
Учитывая, что итоговая строка сильно немногократная по повторениям, я не заморачиваюсь ручным ее созданием и пользуюсь .
На данный момент у меня строка выглядит так
удобство в том, что если я забываю запустить time, то время показывает, когда команда закончила работу. Да и для простого секундомера достаточно нажать Enter. Когда пишу, не нравится, что слева болтается какая-то информация, потому просто начинаю практически с новой строки

Выяснилось, что tput работает не во всех терминалах и не работает при отсутствии терминала, что вызывает ошибки в кроне.
Пока откатился на простенький вариант
