Windows 11 24H2 has begun setting a local policy that, by default, causes applications to use the JScript9Legacy.dll instead ofJScript.dll. JScript9Legacy.dll does not contain the full functionality that CaseView requires, causing the errors observed. This will impact all outstanding versions of Working Papers, including the upcoming Working Papers 2024 update 1.

As the issue is limited to Windows 11 24H2 update, only a small number of clients are currently affected. Unfortunately, while Microsoft has not announced a release date for Windows 11 24H2 yet, we expect the update to eventually roll out for all users worldwide.

Current solutions

Below are a number of solutions we have identified:

Solution 1:

The issue can be resolved by applying the attached registry key, please note that this requires admin access to run. This modifies the registry by changing the following registry key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main and changing JScriptReplacement to 0. For the steps on modifying the registry without the key, please refer to Solution 2 below.

Solution 2:

This issue can be resolved by changing the default registry key to load the classic jscript.dll instead of the JScript replacement DLL jscript9legacy.dll.

To load jscript.dll by default:

Launch regedit.

Navigate to: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main

Right-click the Main key and select New | DWORD (32-bit) Value.

Name the new value JScriptReplacement.

Set the value of JScriptReplacement to 0.

Users can directly modify the registry key in either HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE (as shown above) or HKEY_CURRENT_USER.

Solution 3:

This issue can be resolved by changing the default registry key to load the classic jscript.dll instead of the JScript replacement DLL (jscript9legacy.dll) via Group Policy.

To load jscript.dll by default via Group Policy:

Open Local Group Policy Editor.

Navigate to Local Computer Policy - Computer Configuration - Administrative Templates - Windows Components - Internet Explorer.

Disable policy “Replace JScript by loading JScript9Legacy in place of Jscript”.

The administrator can modify the policy in either "Computer Configuration" or "User Configuration" under Local Computer Policy. Changes to either policy correspond to changes to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE and HKEY_CURRENT_USER respectively.

Configuring via Group Policy:
